Charlene Gerrish
I spent my professional life licensing illustrations and designs . In the last few years I have returned to my real interest - painting!
My subjects reflect my life. With each trip or new living experience I feel compelled to translate my favorite images into paintings. From living in Oregon, I have painted the native Americans that I was privileged to know, western images from the roundups that I attended, as well as scenes ranging from downtown Portland life to the vast regions of Eastern Oregon. Now we are back to the coast of California, and I am especially interested in the images of the highways, both sides of Hwy. 1 (agricultural and marine) and nostalgic Route 66. Of course I can’t forget the wildlife and people that I encounter along the way. Guess that explains the diversity of my subject matter. Actually, I am just looking for the next great graphic pattern and frustrated that there will never be time enough to paint all of my favorite images!
I have won several awards, including the Audubon Artists’ Philip Isenberg Award (NYC), Emerging Artist Award (WW), People‘s Choice Award (SDWS), and am one of four watercolor artists to be selected for the 2nd Annual Scottsdale Salon and Fine Art gallery.
My water reflections are featured in the April 2012 issue of Watercolor Artist magazine and “Steam’n the Roundhouse” was recently selected in the Best of Watercolor competition for the up-coming book, Splash 14: Light and Color.
I am a Signature member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS), National Watercolor Society (NWS), Watercolor West (WW) , San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS) and the Watercolor Honor Society (WHS).
